Qurbani, also known as Udhiya, is a significant religious practice observed by Muslims around the world, especially during the annual celebration of Eid al-Adha. The term "Qurbani" comes from the Arabic word "Qurb", meaning "closeness" or "nearness," symbolizing the act of drawing closer to Allah (God) through an act of sacrifice. Qurbani involves the ritual slaughter of an animal—typically a sheep, goat, cow, or camel—on the 10th day of Dhul-Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic lunar calendar, which marks the end of the Hajj pilgrimage and the beginning of Eid al-Adha.
The Importance of Qurbani
Qurbani is obligatory (wajib) according to the Hanafi school of thought for every Muslim who is of sound mind, has reached puberty, and possesses wealth beyond their essential needs. For others, it remains a highly recommended sunnah. The act of Qurbani is not just about sacrifice, but also about sharing, compassion, and community.
For many families around the world, Eid al-Adha is the only time in the year they are able to eat meat. Through your Qurbani, you can bring joy, dignity, and a nourishing meal to someone’s home.
How Your Qurbani is Carried Out – Karachi, Pakistan
At Khan Foundation, we carry out all Qurbani activities locally in Karachi, with utmost care, transparency, and respect for Islamic guidelines. Here's how the process works:
✅ Shariah-Compliant Sacrifice: Animals are sacrificed during the prescribed days of Dhul Hijjah (10th–13th) by trained butchers under the supervision of local Imams and scholars, in full accordance with Islamic teachings.
Hygienic Handling: We ensure ethical treatment and proper handling of animals, with hygiene and safety protocols maintained throughout the process.
🍲Cooked with Care: Instead of distributing raw meat, our team prepares the Qurbani meat into hot, freshly cooked meals, following local cultural tastes and preferences. This ensures it is easy to distribute and ready to eat for recipients.
🏘️ Local Distribution: Meals are then delivered directly to low-income neighborhoods, orphanages, and shelters across Karachi, reaching families, children, and individuals who otherwise may go without food during Eid.
This model allows us to maximize the impact of each Qurbani, feeding more people while maintaining respect for the sacred tradition.
While Khan Foundation is not a registered charity, and therefore we are unable to issue tax-deductible receipts, we remain committed to our mission of compassion and service.
We are a grassroots, community-driven organization, focused on getting support to where it’s most needed — without red tape. By working with trusted local partners in Karachi, we ensure that your Qurbani is carried out with care, transparency, and sincerity.
